Registration for AGM & HOD workshop
ASASWEI NOTICE 2: (23 July 2021) AGM AND CONFERENCE 2021
Further to ASASWEI Notice 1, the ASASWEI Executive would like to inform you of updates regarding the ASASWEI AGM, the ASASWEI Business Meeting of Heads of Departments and the ASASWEI Conference. The following changes are a direct response to the continued lockdown restrictions, the need to minimise physical contact in order to reduce the spread of the corona-virus, part of the country being in the third wave of the virus, and the recent looting and somewhat risky situation in some areas of KwaZulu-Natal.
In view of the above factors, the ASASWEI Executive has decided that:
- The ASASWEI AGM will be held on Monday 30 August 2021 ONLINE. As per the Association’s Constitution, two representatives per university (including the Head of Department and one pre-designated staff member) will have voting rights at the AGM.
- The ASASWEI Business Meeting with Heads of Departments (one per university) will be held ONLINE on Monday 30 August 2021 (after the AGM) and continue on Tuesday 31 August 2021.
- The biennial ASASWEI conference will continue ONLINE from 1-3 September 2021. Thus far we have received more than 180 abstracts. The call for abstracts was extended to 19 July 2021 and submissions are now closed. We are honoured to have confirmation of the Minister of Social Development the Hon Minister Lindiwe Zulu to address the Conference. Our keynote speaker is Dr Kumi Naidoo who has steered organisations such as Amnesty International and Greenpeace. We are also priviledged to receive addresses from the Vice Chancellor and Dean of Humanities from the University of Zululand, the Registrar of the South African Council for Social Service Professions, the Acting Deputy-Director-General of the Department of Social Development, and heads of key professional and academic associations. Full details on the speakers, themes and programme may be found on the conference webpage on https://asasweiconference.org.za .
